Local Euro MP in the hot seat

Oldham's Labour Euro MP, Arlene McCarthy will be joining members of the Chamber in Oldham for a networking lunch and Q&A session on Friday 16th October.

Arlene said: "As Oldham's Euro MP it's important to keep in touch with local business and hear directly from them their concerns and ideas for the future. In particular I am keen to hear local businesses views on how the banks are supporting them through the financial crisis."

Arlene has recently been elected Vice Chair of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee. Her Committee will pay a key role in drafting new legislation on the financial sector to ensure we never see a repeat of the recent banking crisis.

Arlene added: "I am keeping my pledge to the people of the Oldham to use my influence in Europe and our membership of the EU to deliver results for our region."

"My new committee is taking the big decisions on Europe's economic recovery plan. We must get the real economy moving again and make sure consumers are protected and informed in the financial services sector.

"I will use my position to support and promote Oldham and the North West as a key region to do business and invest in."
